Guiding Statement

Placer Rides helps people stay connected to the moments, services, and relationships that matter most. By supporting transportation to essential destinations for residents whose mobility needs may not be fully met through traditional transportation options, the program promotes independence, strengthens community connections, and helps people participate more fully in daily life.

Connect With What Matters reflects the program’s guiding philosophy. Transportation is more than a trip from one place to another—it is a vital link to the people, services, and experiences that support health, connection and quality of life.

About Placer Rides

  • Placer Rides helps eligible Placer County residents access essential destinations when other transportation options are not available or cannot meet the need. The program reimburses eligible participants on a per-mile basis for eligible trips provided by their own self-chosen drivers, such as family members, friends, neighbors, caregivers, or other trusted people.
  • Placer Rides helps fill transportation gaps for eligible Placer County residents who cannot drive themselves and have difficulty using available public transit or other transportation options.
  • Placer Rides partners with several transportation agencies that serve Placer County.
  • Placer Rides empowers individuals to remain engaged in their communities, protecting their independence, and quality of life through people they trust.
  • This program is funded by the Western Placer County Transportation Services Agency

What Makes The Program Unique?

  • Unlike traditional community transportation programs, Placer Rides allows participants to choose someone they know and trust to provide transportation.
  • A person’s self-chosen driver can be a family member, friend, neighbor or caregiver.

In this situation, Placer Rides offers a special service called “Last Resort Placer Rides.” If you have an urgent need for a medical-related trip and your self-chosen driver is unable to provide transportation(and you are unable to secure another driver) our Placer Rides staff may, at our discretion, arrange for the trip to be provided by a private transportation service provider such as  contracted non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) service provider, nonprofit organization,  commercial transportation company, etc.).

Placer Rides will cover the cost of a maximum of two such round trips per month for eligible participants.

To be eligible for a Last Resort ride, participants must exhibit on an on-going basis that they are actively participating in the mileage reimbursement program component of Placer Rides. Active participation includes either:

– Taking an average of six eligible trips per month over the prior three-month period, or
– Taking eligible trips totaling an average of at least 60 miles per month over the prior three-month period.

Note: New participants will not be eligible for a Last Resort ride in their first three months of enrollment in the Placer Rides program.
